Unit of Learning #7

Web page creation has come a very long way over the last several years.  For those die hard creators, plain old HTML code can still be used to create a very informative and amusing website.  For people like myself (who in High School, took several days to write a simple web page in HTML that listed my favorite sports teams and had some pictures with a solid colored background), who don’t have much time to learn and become fluent in HTML; there are a plethora of easy to use web page creation tools available on the internet that require no prior knowledge of the dreaded HTML code.  Many of the social networking sites that have become rather popular over the last couple of years basically build your website for you.  Facebook and Myspace are probably the two most popular, and with these sites one can very easily construct a personal web page and link up with their friends.  With these tools, one can keep up on their social network with minimal work.  Just by checking into the site daily or several times a week, one doesn’t have to spend hours on the phone with several people trying to gather the latest gossip within their social group.  These sites are really neat tools, and I can’t wait to see how they  evolve over the next couple of years.

Task#6 Post

In today’s ever changing world, Web Logs or “Blogs” serve a very integral role in information dissemination. Blogs can have many purposes: from informing your personal network as to what you are currently doing, all the way to informing subscribers to the latest world news developments, celebrity sleaze, local weather, etc. via RSS feed. Some type of information exchange in one form or another, takes place on a blog. One can definitely leverage their personal time by “blogging”; rather than keeping in touch with multiple people at multiple times. One can inform everyone they choose by updating their blog daily, weekly, or even monthly. Especially with all of the available blog options such as text message updates and e-mail alerts, one has no excuse for keeping up with their personal network or current events. Even though I am new to the world of “blogging” I find it very useful and will try to incorporate it as a tool to keep up with my social network.
